    I try to take a pottery workshop myself every year I try to take a pottery workshop myself every year with an artist that I admire. It’s usually someone whose work makes me say “how the heck do they make that?!” It’s not that I want to make pots like them- but that I want to keep learning new things and have more tips and project ideas to pass on to my students. I just spent a wonderful four days making four hand-built pots with @candice_methe at @alisonpalmerstudio in the beautiful hills of CT. Check out Candice’s incredible work. She is a super special person and fabulous instructor. #workingvacation #iloveclay
    Yesterday, while emailing with tech support at @ba Yesterday, while emailing with tech support at @baileypottery I realized I was speaking to my very first pottery teacher ever. Mike Serfis taught at SUNY New Paltz in the early 90s. He kept me after class one day and made me make 6 pots in 6 minutes because I just couldn't get past centering! He got me over the hump of getting each step "perfect" and just made me make 6 wonky pots. I'll never forget that and I'm so grateful he saw that I needed a little extra push in the right direction. Without him, I may not have kept at it...and thirty years later I'm very happy working as a potter and pottery teacher.     Let’s talk! I’m looking for my next apprentice Let’s talk! I’m looking for my next apprentice. Seeking someone seriously considering a career as a professional potter. Must have a strong work ethic and be eager to learn. I can provide an all-access pass to my 30 years of experience and knowledge, as well as a beautiful studio space and use of equipment. In exchange for your time of 4-6 hours a week you can learn how I make my living as a full-time artist and teacher, how to coordinate successful events and studio tours, how to build community, maintain and repair equipment, manage a working studio, mix glazes, load kilns, recycle clay, maintain mailing lists and websites, photograph your work, sell on ETSY, and set goals for your own creative path. Looking for a 2 year commitment as I invest in your experience, offer instruction, mentoring, feedback on your work, and potential sales opportunities during my holiday open house. Day-to-day tasks will include recycling clay, mixing glazes, loading kilns, cleaning, and stretching slabs. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. This is a work / trade arrangement without pay. Potential for a grant funded apprenticeship is dependent on grant cycles and outcomes.     I took a much needed weekend off! I drove to #benn I took a much needed weekend off! I drove to #benningtonvt to reconnect with a college roommate I hadn’t seen in 20 years. Then I stumbled upon the #northbenningtonoutdoorsculptureshow and took the long way home to hit up some thrift stores and ended the weekend at @blackbirchwines with a beautiful evening of live music and a good old fashioned folky singalong. #perfectweekend
